That was helpful. According to the chart from there, the date code on the barrel flats of my gun is XIII, which for Italy correlates to 1957 manf. I was told it was purchased new in the late 60's/early 70's. Now I'm thinking if that's true, maybe this piece was bought second hand. Makes no difference to me other than determining it's history if I can.
I wonder if there is also a serial number relationship to the date of manufacture, or date of assembly? I've heard that some companies have built their guns from parts made years earlier and this can be determined by comparing records for date codes, vs serial number.
