The ticket price is a small piece of the over all effort.

I'm just disappointed that I drove 2 hrs to an RGS shoot, and no one was at the card table to meet me.
The gun club itself didn't even know what they were up to. They just provided an open venue and gathering room for lunch. They had no other connection to the shoot.

I did my part, but I was pretty annoyed.

A well organized shoot is a joy to participate in.

I always have a blast at Paul Harm's Lapeer shoot.
Philbert's is good too.

I think the real issue isn't just the price of the shoot - it's the perceived value. If you have entertaining and fair targets, somewhat novel games and a decent meal people will be pleased. And what Clapper Zapper said is spot on - I want to be hosted. Some clubs and shoot organizers act as if they are doing you a favor by having a shoot. Gun clubs are in the entertainment business and they should be trying to give us a great experience. That is what brings people back and great clubs do this.
I'm not so much into the prize and trophy thing anymore. Just a few people win the trophies, but shoots are supported by the majority of shooters who won't be winning a prize for their shooting prowess. I think trying to get small to moderate door prizes for all or most of the participants works better than just the HOA getting a big trophy and a check. You need to figure out how to make most everyone happy. It doesn't seem to be that difficult a formula.

The guys at Medford just pulled off another highly successful Great Northern SxS Classic. They're always tweaking things, modifying the main event (pigeon ring was a report pair this year), adding new side events (neat grouse walk). However, they forgot to do the no rain dance Saturday morning. Discovered my RGS windbreaker isn't that waterproof. Gotta toss in the Frog Togs next year.

And, as usual, hundreds of nice side by sides to look at . . . maybe even buy. Great event. Father's Day weekend every year.
