Check these out these Bosses that just came on the market:

Now those are nice guns.

Those prs look like some of the nicest Bosses I've seen in several years. I can't believe how much original condition they have.

That O/U is nice, too. Too bad about the short bbls. I guess you could always have Boss add a set of 30"s.

Lovely, but you can get nice old and original London made SLE in $20000+/-5000 range. A MATCHED pair is approx. 2x + 10-15% extra.
PS. If your bonus is several mil per year, why not.

Yeah, but not Bosses.

Other London guns are nice, but they're not Bosses.

Sure Boss made some lousy guns, but those prs look like they're from Boss's prime years. That means they could be the very best of the best.

And when you're dealing with pinnacle of the trade, you're going to pay.

They're still cheaper than a new pr of London SLEs, though.

Interesting title. Upon what do you base this assertion?

Lots and lots of experience.

Hahaha - just kidding.

Of course, it's my opinion.

But I've spent enough time looking into this kind of stuff to feel confident that it's an informed opinion.

Other people like other things. For instance, this is a pretty nice gun:

http://rogerbain.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/22/products_id/339?

But compared to a Boss, I think Purdeys (even ones with Extra Finish) are a bit dull.

Not every Boss is fantastic. But the ones that are can't be beat (according to me).

BTW: the square bodies at Jaqua's are missing the double beads on the action that I like so much. That means they're almost the pinnacle, but not quite there. For me, of course.

Gee, for that kind of coin I would hope they're very best. I mean, one can get a decent piece of land for that.
Oh, I almost forgot there is a new CEO at one of them investment cos. in lower Manhattan. After 18 months at his new job he is worth 140 mil. Show him these, and he may pull 85k+tax out of his pocket.

OWD, I agree that Thomas Boss is from the old school; that is an era when the English were building masterpiece doubles when our country was still fighting over a name for ourselves, but of the older firms dating let say prior to 1810 and for what I've read Boss isn't mentioned much in the annuals of Africa and India, you know where the real hunting is!!! I've scene Purdey, Moore, Hollis and Rigby but not to much concerning Thomas Boss. Am I reading the wrong books???

Altho' Boss makes a fine gun, I'm not so sure they had much over some of the top 'o the second tier London Sle makers.
The real hunting(shooting as they would say) that a Boss would be used for, would be the grousemoors!
India was the domain of Westley Richards.

Lowell, I disagree completely, the were plenty of Purdeys facing the wilds of Africa, that is when Africa was still wild, along with the Thomas Blands, Westley Richards, Mantons, Rigby, but I've never read about a Thomas Boss, am I missing something?
