Major Sir Gerald Burrard, The Modern Shotgun, Volume 3, "The Gun and The Cartridge", 1948
"In the case of an obstructional burst the really essential evidence is the ring bulge. If there is a ring bulge, there must have been an obstruction; and the absence of a ring bulge is conclusive proof that there could not have been an obstruction."

Never saw a rottweil barrel failure. I have seen in person two k80s fail. One was almost certainly due to reloads the other never had a reload in it. It was less than a month old and failed using factory shells. Thought at the time was a loose basewad but it was never proven. It went back to the dealer and was replaced with an upgraded gun. No question asked or answered. I am not sure that Kreighoff replaced it or the dealer did it. Last thing a dealer wants is a major pissing contest over a barrel failure at the beginning of the Skeet season. So I suspect he replaced it himself and dealt with the maker later. The upgrade was done as a courtesy to make the shooter happy. That has been ten years ago and the new gun is going strong.
