Great post!
The reason why the last pics didn't show up in your initial post is that this site limits the number of pics per post to 10.

Trouble is....Is a Dakin import worth enough to justify that much repair work....???? Unless it was "Dads" troublesome little spanish 20ga double from the 60s....

I believe the first gunsmith fell into what is called a "gumption trap".
See "Zen, and the art of motorcycle maintenance".
Oh, nice work, Dewey. Per usual.

Beautiful job Dewey. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I think the owner of the gun ought to take a copy of this thread along with the bill for your services to Small Claims Court, and see if the judge would agree that the butcher who claimed to be a gunsmith should pay for the damage he did. The only thing missing was vise jaw marks on the action sides.
A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

Thanks, every one.
I know that we all like to see "how it's done" and "how it's made" types of posts.
I didn't know that there was a limit on the number of photos in a post - Thanks Wild Skies for that information.
Ken - my mind is boggled on at least a weekly basis.
Gunut - If it's worth it him, then the answer is yes. In a situation such as this, I always forewarn a client regarding repair costs versus the worth of the gun. Sometimes "worth" and "value" have different meanings for the owner.

You do excellent work. Sadly there are far too many who get their FFL license and hang out a sign and are not even close to true gunsmiths. I can't believe what they do to poor 1100s, and shudder at the thought of them getting hold of a good SxS.

Very nice job, Dewey!
If this gun had been your basic Uggie import from Dakin, maybe not worth that much work. But Dakin also imported some higher dollar guns. As someone above mentioned, they imported Union Armera guns (Grulla). Couldn't tell for sure from any of the photos, but that's what this one looks like to me.

Dewey, Thanks for the posts - really nice work. I've probably had more bad gunsmithing done than good in my life. Its taken years for me to find a small group of craftsman who know what they are doing. Part of that is knowing when to tell the client they can not do something. Regards, Jeff

Larry, it is a Union Amera/Grulla....but it seemed to me that back in the day, 4 some reason all the Dakin guns were built to look good but were made to x&4y"?/7 standards....no matter the maker....might of just been because of the overall upheaval in the Spanish gun making community at the time.... the 50s era was a complete different story...
Dewey; I do understand the owners feelings.....and your work is way beyond reproach....your new parts are most likely the best made parts on the gun...While you were at it ;Hope you replaced both firing pins?.?....
