I noticed this gun, at what seems to be a reasonable price.

But, it's been listed a few times with no bids. What am I missing here? Is there something wrong with this gun such that it's not worth the asking price?
Thanks!!

It looks to be a quality piece from 1993 that was imported by GSI here in Alabama. Other than the single trigger, I really don't see any detractions. The head of the stock is pinned, but that appears to have been at the factory.

Kind Regards,

Raimey

Thanks for your quick reply - I appreciate your opinion. The only other thing I noticed was that the background in the engraving does not seem to have any contrast with the foreground - it all just kind of looks like coin finish. Some of the other listings I've seen, as well as a Merkel/GSI catalog I have, seem to show more contrast. Also, from what I've seen, the pinning in the head of the stock seems to be normal with the single trigger versions.
Thanks again!!
Al

The main thing wrong with it is that it is a "blooming ole 12 ga", instead of 16.

You're missing better guns for less money. Today's spacial was 28" 20ga 3" ejector gun with semi-beaver tail FE straight grip stock choked 1/4-1/2. Maker was legendary Sakaba of Japan. Modell 280. Condition excellent price $800. Why is this gun better? Better wood, checkering, NO stinking Greener X-bolt and despite being like new it was not hard to open unlike mass produced German doubles which need stout knee.

Jagermeister,
Thanks for the reply. I agree with your assessment of SKB doubles - I've got 3 of them, as well as a 16 ga. Simson.
I was just kind of intrigued by the Merkel listing, given that the MSRP on those 147E models was a lot higher than what the guy is asking.

A v-good price if that's what you are looking for....I had that one on my watch list also....I have the same gun with a straight grip, even made the same year...the only problem I saw was that hairline crack on the left side of the head ...I e-mailed the seller to ask if it had been internally repaired but he never got back to me...BTW mine has the same crack ...I think that is why Merkel went with the less dramatic profile on the rear of the action a couple years later.... Like the one Dave K posted a picture of....
