Thanks very much for the advice and feedback. I guess I should have added that I do have other shotguns; O/U, semi-auto, pump and single. I bought my first SxS a couple of months ago, a 1938 Belgian guild gun in very nice condition. I have put about 100 shells through it and really enjoy shooting it and carrying it.

Cheers,

Well Brian, I went with Catherine Zeta Jones. I wish. LOL

I purchased the 1911 Pin Gun. I received it last week and was able to get out and put a box of shells through it and it worked flawlessly. It is in great condition and I am very happy with the fit and feel. I plan to get it opened up from Full/Full to IC/Mod and then follow the advice of KY Jon and use it and enjoy it as is. I will look for a graded or sub gauge Fox as a project. I am going to request a factory letter from John T Callahan for interests sake. Thanks for the advice and feedback.

I am so glad I went with a Fox instead of "one of those boat anchor 21's or coo coo clock internals Parkers!!!! or one of those stock splitting LC Smiths!"

Id hold off on alterations until I got the letter...once you hold the letter in hand and the gun still matches the way it left the factory 100 years ago...you might just decide to use spreader loads to alter the guns thrown patterns when needed....

Victory, I have three of those old 'pin-guns', all with 30" barrels. One is choked f/f (open water ducks), one ic/m (first season doves), and one m/m (late season doves and wood duck holes). The three cover all my shooting needs except for a short barreled open choked quail gun, and I have a 26" c/ic 20ga Parker Trojan for that task...Geo

I agree, don't do anything until you get the letter. Well worth the $30 IMO. Hell, you might find out it was owned by someone famous and I don't mean a local mayor somewhere. IMO the early Pin guns are fantastic and the internals are finished to a very high level. The creme dele creme are the ejector pin guns. If you can ever find one. I owned a shooter grade early pin gun with 28" barrels that came in at about 6.5 lbs. A lovely gun. I of course sold it to buy other Foxes. They are an addiction but a nice one.

The OP is in Canada as I am and our access to spreader loads (if one is not re-loading) is fairly (read extremely) limited.

Yes, but you won't get slapped when you squeeze that Sterlingworth!!!

You will really enjoy it; the gun that is.

The finest spreader load that can be had, can only be had by reloading. The primary benefit of reloading is ready access to loads that aren't commercially available and the spreader just might be justification all by itself.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of SxS guns and shooting....this pastime should come with a warning label as double guns are like tater chips; ya can't just stop with one.
When you are ready to add to your collection, I suggest you shoot a Winchester 21 some and see how you do with it. A good 21's collector value is about three times that of a same grade Fox and holds value well. And yes, I have a Fox and enjoy shooting it along with my 21's, Simsons, Sauers, Parker, Smith,....(I told you it was addicting)
