Rather than criticize the engraving as less than high end dollar bill grade stuff look at it in the context of the day it was likely done, the grade of gun, and wear to the metal since done.

Agreed it is after market and not first class, but it does have a primitive likability that appeals to many just as folk art does.

Not my cup of tea but interesting
