Ok so after taking a little bit of a break I decided to see what I could find about the gunsmith. It seems everything is around the Resenburg area.
According to this link
missilieur auction Johann Baptiste Missillieur, a native of Vienne (south of Lyon), was active in Vienna and Prague circa 1781-1835. He is recorded master in Vienna in 1821 and in the Prague Guild in 1834. Another Girandoni system by this maker is preserved in the Danish Hunting and Forestry Museum, Hørsholm (no. 1170). Five double flintlock guns by this maker decorated with the arms of Duke Maximillian Josef are recorded in the former gunroom of the Dukes Palatine of Zweibrücken, circa 1795. See A. Hoff 1972, p. 73 and T. Hempe 1911, p. 413.
£3000-5000 so evidently Duke Maximillian Josef has close ties with this guy if he has "5" of these firearms.
Duke Maximillian Josef Wiki is from the house of
Wittelsbach interesting enough that lands him during that time in the
Rhennish Palatinate And what does this region look like for an uneducated american who knows nothing of this area?
....and where was Patton's last headquarters?
Regensburg.
So i am pretty confident that it narrows things down CONSIDERABLY and we are in the ballpark.
I just find it interesting both from the smith's point of view, and how this was acquired that they line up.
Thanks to gunwolf for his ideas on this possibility and his sleuthing!
thoughts?
