Poodles. Smartest, most avid natural retrievers I've ever had anything to do with. My family had four while I was growing up.

Lloyd, I have setters now because among other reasons, they are pretty good on my allergies. Most other mainstream hunting breeds set me off. Including everything from labs and goldens to all the European shorthair breeds I've been in contact with. Spaniels aren't bad for me but they aren't as good as setters.

Ted: Thanks again, if I ever find No.2 I'll let you know. Also, your little girl didn't bother me a bit, but there's a big difference between hunting with them and living with them. Very different form of exposure. I suspect that any sustained time indoors with her might be a problem, but.....only one way to know that one.

James: I work with an English Setter who is a lovely dog, but I have noticed over the years that my allergic response to him is getting much worse. It's to the point where I don't love on him much anymore like I used to and he's confused by that. Moreover, I have to go wash my hands immediately after any contact with him or it's going to be a long day. Darn shame.

Lagopus: I'd almost pay money to see that pack in action.....

Lloyd, that the way I'm with labs and shorthairs like GSP and Weims. Must wash hands immediately. And like you, I have confused a few dogs by my lack of physicality with them.

I even used to have a cat or I should say the cat had me. The first five years or so was fine. And as cats will, he decided I was his. Little interest in my wife. But then the allergies came and the last decade of his life I had to increasingly stay away from him and anything he touched. I even could tell when the cat had been crawling around on one of the dogs! He was somewhat perturbed by my change in behavior.
