Dewey; As a retired machinist I can certainly appreciate the workmanship you are putting into this. I will say from the pics it all looks absolutely First class. That combination shoe/through lump should give an extremely strong connection. In the Bertuzzi, the outer plates are simply covers that open to expose the inboard-mounted sidelock mechanism. I am not familiar with this gun, not following that inboard-mounted sidelock description. Is this somewhat akin to the old Lefever Arms Co guns. On those the lockworks were mounted to the frame with cover plates resembling a bar action sidelock. These guns though have traditionally been called box locks as the locks are not mounted to the plates.

Is it possible that one of the hallmarks of British gunmaking held in such high regard, the Rigby rising bite, is actually an American invention?
Greener: "Another form of the top bolting revived by the late Editor of the Field and by Mr. Rigby in their hammerless guns is shown in the Abbey breech-loader, an American invention of the some twenty years ago."
Let's hear it for the Yankees.
Dewey, hope you update project progress on this outstanding work. Dennis

Mr. Vicknair,
Are you using 3D modeling? Solidworks, Inventor?

Dewey doesn't post here anymore. We speak several times a year via email, and I can assure everyone he is fine, and very busy-he instructed several gunsmithing courses this spring, and, was glad to get back home and back to work when they were over. If you are interested in what projects he is undertaking, look at his blog, which has contact information should you be interested in discussing a project with him.
Best, Ted
