the knot might check or shed whatever finish you put on it but with an oil finish it can be touched up ..there might also be some voids or bark in the knot area when the blank is being trimmed down...these can more than likely be filled with some tinted Accra glass...sometimes the knot will even loosen and fall out..no problem if you like that assault style hole in the stock look... whistle
