S.W. Silvers was founded in London in 1861 and introduced "The Anti-Recoil Heel Plate-The Silver's Safety Pad" in the 1870s. The first Parker fitted with a solid red "Silvers Recoil Butt" was DH #56553 in 1891. The pad was not offered on Smith guns until 1905.

Boots were popular even into the 20s. Woolfolk Henderson after he won the GAH with a 98x100 from 22 yards, the Amateur Championship of U.S. with a 99x100 from 16 yds, and the Amateur Doubles Championship of the U.S. with 90x100 from 16 yds. Note the glove on his left hand.
