They are a bit off the mark with "early 1900s" in their text. Frank D. Hawkins two Patents for the pad with the heart-shaped vents were granted December 16, 1919 (1,325,152) and May 26, 1925 (1,538,990). I'm not sure exactly when Hawkins business started, but I don't find their pads shown in any of my Stoeger, S,D&G, E.K. Tryon, etc. catalogues until the 1930s. The earliest H & D Folsom Arms Co. catalogue I find the Hawkins pad in is Catalogue No. 23 which I think is about 1925. I have an H & D Folsom Arms Co. price list dated May 1927 which says it applies to Catalogue No. 25. The repro Hawkins pad being offered is in the largest size and is really only right for big guns like a Magnum-Ten NID.
I went through my Flues era Ithaca Gun Co. catalogues and they are very sparse on mentioning recoil pads. The single barrel traps are mentioned as being standard with twin ivory sights and a recoil pad. On those illustrations that show the butt of an SBT it shows a silvers type pad. The order blank in the later Flues era catalogues shows a No. 7E double with a Jostam Anti-Flinch pad.
Does anyone no the Patent Number for the June 6, 1922 date on the Winchester/NOSHOC pads?
