Would a Jostam HY-GUN be appropriate? If so, I have several that might work.

Can you identify the old pad? The Hawkins 'heart vents' pad is certainly appropriate. Ithaca sold the Hawkins in your guns era.

Walt, Good morning. Is this the one you are talking about? They call it a diamond but looks more like hearts to me. http://www.gunzillion.com/catalog/rifle-...60#.VO8Cli4QOmcThanks, Bill

They are a bit off the mark with "early 1900s" in their text. Frank D. Hawkins two Patents for the pad with the heart-shaped vents were granted December 16, 1919 (1,325,152) and May 26, 1925 (1,538,990). I'm not sure exactly when Hawkins business started, but I don't find their pads shown in any of my Stoeger, S,D&G, E.K. Tryon, etc. catalogues until the 1930s. The earliest H & D Folsom Arms Co. catalogue I find the Hawkins pad in is Catalogue No. 23 which I think is about 1925. I have an H & D Folsom Arms Co. price list dated May 1927 which says it applies to Catalogue No. 25. The repro Hawkins pad being offered is in the largest size and is really only right for big guns like a Magnum-Ten NID. I went through my Flues era Ithaca Gun Co. catalogues and they are very sparse on mentioning recoil pads. The single barrel traps are mentioned as being standard with twin ivory sights and a recoil pad. On those illustrations that show the butt of an SBT it shows a silvers type pad. The order blank in the later Flues era catalogues shows a No. 7E double with a Jostam Anti-Flinch pad. Does anyone no the Patent Number for the June 6, 1922 date on the Winchester/NOSHOC pads?

I find the Hawkins pads mentioned in the Parker Pages in 1925 and in the Franzios catalog of the same year for $3.25. Lots of suppliers for the Hawkins vvvv perforations from 1927 on including Colorado Sporting Goods, Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett, Bob Smith , VLA, Folsom etc.

I had a Sunburst put on a NID 1E that dates from 1927. So I'm a little off on chronology. However, the nice thing about the Sunburst on an Ithaca is that the pad is marked "Ithaca Gun Co."

I think you are correct. There is an old Hawkins with the heart vents on ebay right now and it has 7 hearts along the back as opposed to 8 on the repro.
I saw 2 pics of Black Hawkins heart pads that looked nice. What is the skinny on those? Original? Repro?
