Exactly right. Recutting checkering for utility is one thing. If doing it for aesthetics, I consider the harmony of the wood finish, checkering and metal finishes.

I've been passionate about checkering for 40 years and I've I've butchered a lot of classic guns with exhibition walnut and fancy checkering. I also recut checkering for others. I would refuse this job.
