Gentlemen; I have been working on a Sauer & Sohn, Suhl, 16 gauge side by side hammer shotgun for a couple years, and am wondering if there are possibly experts who might be able to tell the year of manufacture. It is Damascus barreled, and I once saw an older book on the Sauers that said Leopold Bernard sold barrels to Sauer & Sohn from something like 1865 to 1869 when he died.
I have had Dale Edmonds re-finish it in black & silver, and it is beautiful. The barrels are badly pitted inside, so I will most likely have Brileys in Houston put 28 gauge tubes in it. No, I don't want to sell it, and my picture taking abilities are very poor.
