Ok... Just had another customer bring me a stock from Macon for me to fit. I wish I knew he was planning on going there, I would have advised him otherwise.
In looking at the semi Inletted set, forend was good. Buttstock had a major issue with the top inletting. I sent the customer back to Macon.
They are basically holding him ransom with it saying he can send the gun back to them to fit up (for a charge) or it will cost him a $75 charge for returning the old stock and w replacement will be at a grade of wood of their choice, since he paid a premium for a wood upgrade.
Absolutely no way to do business.
I wouldn't know where to start with fitting a stock to most shotguns. Is Macon saying they can fit the same stock to the gun for the customer? If so, then that seems like a reasonable offer, and of course they should charge for final fitting of a semi-inlet stock. I'm sure Macon is asking themselves why they should lose money on the stock if it actually can be properly fit to the receiver.
I'd be pretty angry if they return the gun with a different stock, but imagine the PR win for Macon Gunstocks if the same stock is returned with the expected fit and finish after a respected gunsmith said the stock wouldn't work. That would probably make for another interesting thread on the forum.
