I love that boxlock that Alex posted the picture of.
JC, we 'gotta have a word about that recoil pad on the Ideal. It belongs on one of Bean's LCs! Best, Ted

I've always heard it called French Skip-line checkering. Basket-weave would be done by carving, IMO.

Jim- Like you, I've heard this called French, or more commonly, skip line. Basket weave is a carved series of bands which create the illusion of being "woven". Ugly, IMO

Hello Jerry, I actually find the checkering quite becoming on the Ideal. Here is a so-so closeup. I'll get a better one later. Ted: the current pad is this black one; the White Line is put away in case they come in vogue again, :-) Fitted it meself (my first). JC(AL)

My first stalking rifle had this type of checkering. It had a rotary magazine "sparkling barrel", it was made by Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG. Just the thing to carry in these meadows....

Much better, Jay Cee-you know, white lines never went out of style...on guns that Beans owns. Best, Ted
