It has been a while since I have done any CAS shooting but quite a number of folks, including myself, used Baikals but most had them "slicked up" so shells would easily eject with a flip of the wrist and they opened more easily. The more recent Baikals were built like tank and seldom failed to due what was needed. And they were very reasonably priced so you didn't mind making modifications to suit your needs such as shortening barrels, removing chokes, etc...

Take care... As far as publishers, I have never published a book but heard others talk of "self publishing", where the author goes to a printer and has it printed then distributes it directly. Is that an option in Russia?

Don - thanks a lot. The Model 43 / Spr 2xx and the CAS is an interesting topic for two reasons: first, CAS was allegedly responsible for appearance of at least two modifications of the gun, K (with manual cocking levers imposing as hammers) and KN (a real hammer versions). Second, there's dispute over the longevity of the action - and today people aren't likely to shoot an inexpensive sbs a lot, except in CAS. Thanks for the suggestion of self-publishing; I'm considering it as Plan B.

Heck, I'd buy one! My father had a 20 ga Remington Spartan coach gun which I used for a season jump shooting ducks. What a great gun! When first purchased, it was so tight you had to break it open over your knee. Then I sent it out to a CAS gunsmith who slicked it up nicely, so nicely my father took it back and I haven't seen it since. They were made by Baikal, if I remember. It was a nice intro to Russian gun making and I would love to learn more.

Great idea and I would welcome this addition to my library. One criticism though, drop the chapters on pumps and autos and concentrate on the break actions then you can add pages per chapter.

Just want to wish you good luck w/your book! I will buy a copy as well when it is completed. FWIW, I think your perspective is just fine for content. I would not exclude the chapters on the pump & other configuration guns as there is an audience of users for those guns as well, primarily the snow goose hunters along the Texas coast who use them with VERY stout steel shot loads. Again the 'built like a tank' phrase comes to mind. Their sound construction and over building has certainly served that group of shooters well ... and from what I know of some of their practices, they need all the extra margin of safety possible;-)

Thank you for your recent link as well. I am always amazed at the different and exquisitely executed engraving found on some of the few higher grade Russian guns I've been able to examine or see pictures of. I'd hope too that you might gain access to some of those guns for another book dealing w/that subject alone.
