How 'bout a Whitney No.1 Sporting Rifle (rolling block) circa 1880's, the chamber was horribly corroded (.38/40 Remington-Hepburn)... Relined the 28" octagon barrel to .38/55 Ballard (Winchester).

Shiloh Sharps 1874 in .45 2 7/8" has been my elk rifle. And I have a Ruger #1 .30-06 in the safe for my left handed grandson's elk rifle.

Those are great!!I Think my next purchase is either going to be a Ruger #1 Customized to shoot the .50-110 Express or the .45-90 or a Shiloh sharps in .45-90.Mr. Hughes what would it take to convert a Ruger #1 to a Takedown with extra barrels? I realize the ejecter is a problem unless you stay with rimmed cases, or Rimless cases in the gun you can not shoot both in the same gun.

Jeff, To the best of my knowledge, takedown doesn't work for the Ruger #1 because of the forend hanger. IMO your better off with a Sharps in the big blackpowder catridges because of weight (or lack of) issues. I'm booked up for custom projects. Here's a Hagn action reconfigured and in process. Before And after. 280 cal. | | |

Which of the single shot rifles was the work horse at the famous Creed's Moor shoot against the Irish team. From memory the Irish team was shooting Rigby's and the American team had Remington rolling blocks, a Sharps and a Ballard is that correct?? All the best

Now that Hornady is going to load 9,3x74, I might get me one of them Strum und Ruger Numero Unos in that caliber. Matter of fact, I nearly bought one in .404R-lessNEJ. That 9,5x73 bolt gun needs a "mate".
