Joe,

You may be right. We'll see, I asked for pics of the flats. F Williams did make a lot of medium-grade pre-1890 hammer guns. This may be one of'em..

I'm inclined to agree with Joe. The name and the proofs look British, but the lines, shapes etc look cheap Belgian; 10B, 11M, but listed as 12g?

I have a very nice COLT Model 1878 hammer gun for sale right here on the Forum. Contact me and let's see if we can work something out.

I bought a Husqvarna 51 hammer 12 gauge at Cabelas last fall for $400. It's been carried a lot, but shot very little. They are incredibly well made guns. Ask a good SxS gunsmith what they think of them. Mine works perfectly, and for some odd reason it has DAC=1.5" and DAH=2.125". Modern dimensions! Lots of old hammer guns are shot out and need a bit of money to make them sound, so you have to be careful when purchasing.

The marks look like 1875-1887 Birmingham proofs. I'd say it is a 10ga, erroneously described as a 12.

I'll admit to shooting a couple of Belgium "clunkers" that I picked up for a few hundred dollars each. After an inspection by a competent gunsmith I shoot lite handloads through them.

My utopia is a 16 gauge back action hammergun. Criticism welcomed smile.

Wonderful gun. If that's a "Clunker", I'd be happy to buy types like that all day long. Fluid steel or pattern-welded barrels? Happen to know who made it?

Regards
Ken

Hi Ken

Both are Damascus barreled although one has been blued. Guild guns with no makers name on them. Thanks for the compliment.

Were they in their current condition when you bought them? I run into very few back-action Belgian hammer guns in anything but "very rough" condition. Typically the "T Barker" and "W Richards" types imported by Folsom.

Ken
