Jaycee, if all you require is an alarm, bore a hole in a steel plate large enough for a cartridge case to pass through and be retained by the rim ( an old scrap gun chamber would do) then rig up a weighted firing pin (nail) that is actuated by a trip wire. You can buy and use these devices here in the UK.

Hi fellows, this is eugene molloy in a new weskit. For some reason the site blew my name and password out. Hey ho.

The devices were always known to me as "alarm guns" and were designed to fire only 12b black powder blanks. Here is a link with a few pics. Simple enough to make at home.
