My experiences we not good with their semi-Inletted stocks that people have provided me with for fitting and finishing. They are 0 for 4 with me in that category.

I'd think the quality of their work would need to catch up with their current prices before they go up any.

Kyre sounds like he got lucky.I think sometimes stock fitters can belike painters. They can do a great job for one guy then the next guy be a disaster. I'm sure jewelers fall in there somewhere too.

Getting lucky seems unlikely. This is the fourth gun Macon has restocked for me, over about three and a half years. Here are the other three:

Trust Eibarres (Lucio Loyola)

Horizon 700 (Garbi)

Borchers-Celta (Gregorio San Martin)

I've never known anyone who was that lucky for that long :-)

It does seem something other than luck explains your good experience with Macon -- and repeated touting of their work.

I sent my job to them after seeing a couple endorsements on forums like this one. As my experience began to disappoint, I did a Google search and found detailed postings of others' unsatisfactory experience -- too late for me. That's on me for lack of due diligence.

What I find odd here is that some (Kyrie, no doubt others) can have such good customer experience, good enough to become a significant customer (4 restocks in 4 years I'd call significant. It's not buying one semi inletted stock)and yet others have such disastrous experiences.

That is not usually the way in customer service. With Macon we get wildly varying assessments.

Odd perhaps, but not that unusual. I have seen comments regarding a certain American doublegun maker (and some high-end Italian makers) and a certain gunsmith here in MA that were similarly uneven and difficult to reconcile.

Truth that!

People have good things to say about Wenig, and I tried to use them to restock a SxS side lock shotgun. Same kind of job you see in the Macon photos. Over the phone Wenig quoted me $1800 - $2000; my gun, my wood, they supply the skeleton butt plate. I sent them the gun and wood and once they had both the quote became $3600 and I had to supply the butt plate. I told them to send my gun and wood back, which they did.

I tried to use the Great American Gunstock Company for two guns. The first gun I sent them was an AyA model 117. Took them twice as long as promised, but they did a good job for the money.

Next gun I sent them was a very nice Victor Sarasqueta, which I never got back. After over two years trying to get the gun and wood back I finally had to give up and reported the gun stolen.

Feces occur.

A pretty piece of wood can help hide poor in-letting....
