i appreciate your responses and links. i have actully had a speed bag that i still use and i bought it around '96. i got it from Trader Keith's and it was the only place to get one that i could find in those pre-internet days. murdered many a crow pulling shells from that bag.

but the range bag is large and rectangular and used for carrying flats of shells and general "stuff" you need when shooting at the range. like glasses, muffs, cleaning stuff, etc.
