That is near me. Caused a 7 hour backup on rt. 287. Good thing it wasn't near Newark or Paterson or the locals would have helped the driver transport the boxes.
So many guns, so little time!

I don't think I've ever shipped a gun through the USPS, although I received one--from England--at my local rural post office several years back. Might have been others I've received. Cannot recall any problems.
I'm currently awaiting news on one, scheduled arrival today, and I've been tracking it using their system. So far, it seems clumsier to me than UPS tracking--and I'm beginning to wonder whether it's flown off with Santa in his sleigh. Left Louisville at 4 a.m. today; nothing on further progress over 12 hours later, and the next stop should be Des Moines. If it doesn't get there by early tomorrow morning, then it will be a minimum of 2 days late vs scheduled arrival--and shipped priority 2 day. Of course this is the worst time of year for shipping issues, so I have my fingers crossed.
I've had pretty much 100% good luck with UPS, both sending and receiving. I did have one coming from the East Coast, and their tracking system showed it took a roundabout route. Got as far as Chicago, then headed back east. I was concerned, called the dealer who sent it, but about that time it made a U-turn and headed back to flyover country. Arrived safe and sound, albeit roundabout and not very timely.

I grew up not far from there and builder is right if that was in Newark the local boys would have bbmans 410 Purdey's barrels cut down to 12" and using it sideways as a O/U to protect the drug franchise on the corner !
Larry, you might be able to get a bit more up-to-date info if you go to your local USPS,they have better tracking then we do on line,of course they are busier then a one armed paper hanger with Santa on his way.

Larry I live in a the country and the UPS driver is my friend.I ask him about getting a gun picked up at my home and he said they were not suppose to pickup guns unless I was returning one that was shipped by UPS to me. I have had good luck using post office. Bobby

The other day I got a USPS package, and a UPS package. Same day, FedEx retured a package as "Undeliverable Address". They are all fallible.

Agree 1000%, Just got back from a 1 3/4 drive to p/u a real nice Browning Superlight 20 ga,well worth the time/gas and would much rather spend the $ on lunch then shipping/insurance.

You need to go to a depot, or whatever they call it . . . the place where the brown trucks live. And no question that's less convenient for a lot of people than going to the local post office.

In my neighborhood UPS makes deliveries in golf carts. No top or no cover. Exposed to the elements, rain or shine. They don't seem to differentiate between registered, priority or regular mail - it doesn't matter.
I would hate to have anything of much value delivered in that manner.

I went to pick up a shotgun at the UPS depot Monday. The delivery attempt was Friday at home, but signature required. When I picked up the gun, it was in a unmarked box with nothing to indicate contents. The clerk told me "it's gotta be a shotgun." "How'd you know?" "It was the amount of insurance on the delivery and box type." She explained that guns can't be shipped from store locations partly because of storage considerations. All gun shipments are segregated and locked up at the depot. I have a FedEx delivery scheduled for tomorrow, signature required on another gun. Rather than go through the hassle I experienced on the last gun shipment, this morning I went to a nearby Fedex store and had the shipment delivery changed to the store. Far better than going through the hassle I had with the last shipment trying to guess when I should be home for signature.
