By law there can be nothing on the box to indicate its a gun,so it would be impossible for UPS to segregate them-you received bad info from a clerk-not uncommon I don't even bother asking them as they just make it up as they go along.

According to ATF rules you may have to have that gun delivered to your business premise or mailing address listed on your FFL,a separate Fed Ex franchise outlet may not meet that criteria.

Dave, when you insure the gun for shipment, and hand it the clerk, you specifically have to state it is a gun when they ask what is being insured. Someone at UPS knows it's a gun. The clerk was guessing when she handed me the box. Whether or not it is stored separately or with other high value deliveries is another matter. I wasn't shipping the gun, just receiving it after repairs. Gil

GLS,

I have spoken with both UPS and FedEx when packages are delayed or miss shipped. I can assure you 100% that NO ONE knows whats in those packages-to avoid theft as employee theft is their biggest problem !

I had a package of 2 Colt Saa's mislabeled and sent to wrong address,I ended up on the phone with a supervisor in Huston who after a few questions, asked what was in the package-I asked if they knew and she said NO they do not !

There is NO way they could possibly keep every package that was insured that "looks like a gun" in a separate area,if they everyone would know then.
Does not happen, the clerk like most is just spouting off BS,if you want to believe it fine.

from the UPS site:
"The labeling and outer box markings on all firearms shipments should not identify the contents as containing a firearm. Labeling, including the shipper's and consignee's abbreviated names on the shipping label or air shipping document, must be non-descriptive."

with nothing on the outside of the box to indicate a firearm
how in the world do they separate them ?

And here is Fed Ex

Gil it is tough knowing you have a gun coming that day and afraid to leave home and no one at home to sign for package.I have been known to look for and chase down delivery vehicles! Bobby

Bobby, been there and done that, too. The hours are usually routine for delivery except when I have to sign for one. Then they are all over the clock. Gil

Finally got a scan on my inbound gun . . . 2 days after the last scan. Appears it may make it after all. Late, but Christmas undoubtedly has a lot to do with that.
