This is about the 489th discussion I have seen on this topic. There is no one best shipper, they have all had troubles. If you want something shipped so as to be indestructible...then package it indestructibly.

I agree, the very best "insurance" is packing it double safe what you think it needs, and then they still find ways to damage it.When possible I take down shotguns and double pack,I have even gone as far as to make a small box out of pine sides and luan top and bottom, bubble wrap barrels and stock in separate "boxes"-the bubble wrap box then card board.
I guess the next best thread should be who is the most likely to pay when it arrives damaged.UPS seem to be the worst with FedEx and USPS tied for second worse.

Pack so that the only way for things to go wrong are either getting driven over by a truck or getting plain lost. Nothing will prevent either of those scenarios. That, along with insurance, You can't go wrong.
As others have said, all carriers are all bad at some times.

And to reiterate what Dave said, never ship a long gun with the barrel affixed to the action or receiver. The barrel can act as a lever breaking the stock at the wrist should the package get mauled by the shipper.

Received a delivery here in England yesterday. Firstly I received an e-mail to say the delivery would take place between 16:27 and 17:27 that day. I was directed to a web site that gave me the position of the delivery van on a map at that time and an estimated time of arrival that would be updated every 15 minutes. Oh, I forgot to add that it also gave me the name of the delivery driver, Ben; but that's not important. Time of delivery; 16:47. Now that's service! Lagopus.....

One layer of bubble-wrap and a few packing P-nuts in a long skinny cardboard box should be plenty of protection!
Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug
