It's a box lock. Typical Vouzelaud. Ornamental side plates with faux pins and tumbler axles. Well done, very high quality, but it's a BLE. Actually, I firmly believe that this one is a real SLE as there is no obvious bottom action plate without which one cannot make a boxlock. Additionally the case label (assuming it is authentic) says it is a Sidelock (platine). If it is not a SLE, they would be liable for fraud. However, the barrels are monoblocked. Best regards, and happy T-day. WC-

As WC said - 100% sidelock.
If it were a boxlock, you would need a bottom plate to access the lockwork.
That gun ain't got one.

The 20ga on GI is one of the models (EGL) specifically referenced in Zutz's section on Vouzelaud as being a sideplated boxlock. Dr. Nelson, who visited Vouzelaud sometime prior to 1992, also confirmed that all their guns were boxlocks.
The Gunbroker gun certainly should be a sidelock with the "platines" notation (although sideplated boxlocks are referred to as "fausses platines"). The GP that's part of the serial number makes me wonder if it's a later model--the P possibly standing for "platines"--by which time Vouzelaud might have been producing at least some sidelocks. Since their guns were/are made by St. Etienne outworkers, it's not like they had to convert a factory to making a new design.

Mark-
Interesting. Is that a Verney-Carron?
Are they A&D boxlocks or hybrids?
They look like the could be a kind of triggerplate-style action.
Thank you for sharing.

OWD Yes a V-C they are their own design unlike a A&D and not a trigger plate. I will try to find some photos.

Vouzelaud confirmed that this 315EGL listed on their website is a sideplated boxlock. 315EGL Older VC boxlocks like the one in my earlier post were A&D boxlocks. The newer VCs use an entirely different action with a four-lump lockup.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

The newer VCs use an entirely different action with a four-lump lockup. A four lump lockup sounds suspiciously like the old Demas "Azur" action, which would have went to Verney Carron when they bought Mr. Demas out. Perhaps the new Vouzelaud guns are built on the old Azur action, provided by Verney Carron? The photo Mark provided pretty much proved a single screw in the bottom does not necessarily a sidelock make. Best, Ted
