Nice looking rifle although I must say it's a bit overscoped…
I presume a fancy stick of local walnut?

Rabbits terrorizing the flower garden are they?

Very impressive Chuck, my hat's off to you.
Now if you can just find a machine that will round those action sides off…

This is a link to another project on the S&W forum done entirely with hand tools.

Appreciate the comments. I have a machine to round the action. it is called a file. From the look of Steve's work on the Smith, he knows how to use one very well.

I've got a couple projects I'm working on. Both are old Ballard single shot rifles. The first is a Ballard engraved, barreled action I traded into, which needs stocking. I've purchased a 90% inletted stock set from Dave Crossno, and a repro small Farrow Swiss buttplate also. Need to fit and final shape them, and then do the finish, and get the stocks checkered. The gun presently has a full octagon 30" barrel in .32-40, but I have a brand new half octagon in the same caliber, and debating whether to swap it on the gun also.

The 2nd Ballard is a pawn shop find #3 .22lr that's a fairly average gun, except for a extra heavy full octagon barrel. It had a stuck/broken extractor, with 2nd half missing. I finally got it out this week, and trying to get a new two piece extractor from Distant Thunder, but can't get them to answer phone or email. I'll try again next week, or find another source.

Vall,

Glenn Fewless made a two piece extractor for one of my rifles as part of the project.

Vall,
Very nice projects. Thanks for sharing.
If you want to sell the barrel off the first gun I would be interested to know. I have planned a 40 Maynard for my project but I could get talked into 32-40.

Vall,
That engraved Ballard looks like a jewel. Makes you wonder what stock was on it originally, but your replacement is excellent. Will make a beautiful rifle. The .22 looks like a challenge, but will make a nice rifle when done.
