I want to get one of those automatic traps like Atlas or Promatic. Does anyone have either of those brands? Do you like/don't like them? What other brands should I be looking at?

I have both and both are good machines. The Promatic is easier to operate and the Atlas is faster on cycle time and lighter weight. If you use a radio release the cycle time is not an issue since the renote controls the cycle time. I think they are the best 2.

jt.. i have a promatic ranger. it has a 6 stack carousel that holds 285 targets. ive thrown close to 30K worth of targets over the course of 6 yrs on my machine and it just keeps going. i would stay away from throwers that use some type of pinch system to support the stack while the bottom target drops down next to the arm. tricky business that is. find something that uses a knife system, has few moving parts and has a good reputation. if you intend on using it alot, this machine will pay itself off in the first pallet or two of targets.

Hi JT. I have Lincolns, Promatics,Superiors and Sporttraps. I will not buy another Promatic. Lincolns are easier to set up, adjust, maintain, etc. They throw any make of bird without missing a beat. Rod Shyda is great to deal with. Service is terriffic. Traps are all made here in PA, not across the pond. All my Lincolns have wheel carts, carousel covers and weather plates. Real slick system. Hope this helps.

We're talking personal traps here. Lincoln's entry level auto trap is $2725. Pro-Matic and Atlas start at $600-$800 and go up to $1500. The Lincoln is a club trap and priced accordingly. Stay away from the Do All and its tempting price.

I have a Promatic Super Hawk. It is a little workhorse, built very solid. It's only drawback is that it is target sensitive in that it will only throw White Flyer Sporting targets. So if you plan on buying and using target from Walmart etc. you will probably have a lot of breakage.

I'm interested in a Superhawk or Firefly Promatic too. I've been talking to a couple dealers listed in their website for the US. I expect they'll just quote the list price and add shipping as one dealer has indicated. Apparently there's no competition on the sales of this brand.

I looked at the Do All and I have noticed them in the return bin at Gander Mountain. I would not buy one. I think that if I only had one trap I would not turn my hand over for the difference between the Atlas and Promatic Firefly. Both have drawbacks and advantages. I had a some of each and they work entirely differently. Not a good thing when you have people unfamilar with them loading them. I bought another Firefly. I will sell a stainless one for 600.00 if someone wants it. of course, Dave would get 10.00
