I obviously know the lower rifle is an 1895 Chilean Short Cavalry or Police Rifle or the like, my question is; the upper rifle what I think it is? A pre-war Type B or C or some Type of Commercial Mauser? I got them both in a 2 gun lot, in the RIA internet only auction, held today. I believe the 98 Sporter is likely commercial as the bow button hinged floorplate, along with the Griffin and Howe Side Mount [no screws showing, so most likely a G&H mounting job and G&H/AF IMPORTED THEM... Type Modells!] and the stock looks to be Beech and the Type B/C Mauser's came with a lot of Beech stocks, checkering, cheekpiece shape, rear sight all say a TYPE ___ MODELL MAUSER, to me. What say you?

It's a Type B, like this one:

The Griffin & Howe mount appears to be quite old, since it has built in windage adjustment. From what little I can see of the Lyman 48, it also appears to be pre-War.

This is a Type C with a later model G&H side mount:

Check your serial number against the G&H records of Abercrombie and Fitch sales and purchases.

xusa/B: Sorry I put the two same pictures here, but I bid today before going to the stand and posted while in it. Hurry up not to miss a shot! There's a shot UP NOW of the 48 side!

Thanks for the Help! I knew I could count on the Tennessee Professor. What's your take on the 95 Carbine?

I will but Bob Beach at GRIFFIN AND HOWE says they have no G&H records from that pre-war era and the A&F records from then are, not much better.

Regards to all
