Spoke to a colleague in the Birmingham trade today and asked about Smiths . Mary Smith who ran the company retired a couple of years ago . The shop was taken over /continued by a long term employee but has not continued under the name of CH Smith so I would assume that Mrs Smith still holds title to the company .I can also assume that as the company is no longer trading that the current occupant of their old shop has no access to any , if any records or other archive materials should they exist .
