Steve, for the record, there is no limit on the capacity of a bolt action… just handguns and autoloading weapons with removable magazines.

Jerry, The Berthier(?) used an enblock clip (as did the M1). The early ones 3 shot, the later ones 5 shot. The clips are necessary for function as a repeater. The 5 shot clips are hard enough to find, but the 3 shot ones are very hard to find. This is why it is important to know which version the rifle is. Jerry, I hope you take my comments in jest a they are meant. California and military rifles is fertile ground for those that live elsewhere.
Did you know I fled western Oregon twenty years ago because of the politics? It was easy to see the direction it was headed. I tell people that they ran me out… not far from the fact.

Steve, No offence taken. Although you had me going at first. Being a collector who still has a legal CA firearms lic. you can understand that I really get P_SSED at people in other states who won't sell a gun to CA. It is pure ignorance on their part and all it does is play into the hands of the anti's.
I understand why you would leave. I live in the central valley where there is a bit more conservative population than in the bay area (or LA). Also a lot more smog.
I too have thought hard about retiring out of state (Nevada?). My wife and I have made several trips looking at the area around Reno. Unfortunately, being self employed my retirement is what I have accumulated and the value of my Consulting engineering business. I don't think I can retire as early as I like, move away and still enjoy the life style I want. If I stay I can transition from full time to part time. So the choice is retire early here in CA or retire later (i.e. with less income) in another state.
I am leaning on finding a place in the mountains above the smog that I could commute part time. That is the best I can do and still aford the shooting and hunting trips I enjoy now…. Besides my wife is bugging me to return to Africa. She wants to shoot a Nyala and a Sable!
Not bad for a hunter who until we made our 1st trip to Africa had only shot a few pen raised birds!
Jerry
BTW I enjoy your writings in boks and magazines
