Except that the crusher technology did not measure the entire area under the 'true' pressure curve, because the pressures below that required to achieve deformation were not measured at all, and as already alluded to, the peak pressures did not cause effect due to the brevity of the event and hysteresis of the mechanism.

That's funny. "...brevity of the event and hysteresis of the mechanism." Seriously? Thanks for the giggle.

Being specific: a 95 model Mauser made in Germany (Loewe-Berlin) and properly re-chambered for the 7.62NATO cartridge in very good condition.

" brevity of the event and hysteresis of the mechanism"
Very clarifying and I cannot see it as funny. Am I missing something?
hysterisis: the phenomenon in which the value of a physical property lags behind changes in the effect causing it, as for instance when magnetic induction lags behind the magnetizing force.

Since deformation is correlated with peak pressure, how exactly can a crusher measure total area under the pressure curve?
I'm looking at an old Dupont handloader's guide.
Federal Game load hull Federal 209 R12L 1 oz. 1295 fps
700X = 8600 LUP PB = 6600 LUP
Clearly the work done is the same thus the area under the pressure curve should be the same.
I call BS on a crusher measuring the area under the pressure curve.

Seems to me that both systems are measuring the same thing, IE peak chamber pressure. the crusher method just has some inherent inaccuracies which the PE system avoids thus the different readings. A German made model 95 mauser is a rather strong action regardless of what some may tell you. Pressures on US factory loaded 7x57 cartridges are kept low in deference to there still being a good number of both Remington rolling blocks & Spanish 93's around in that chambering. Yes the 93 & 95 are essentially of the same design,but the Spanish guns did not always use as good metallurgy as did the German built ones, om spanish guns were on the Soft side.

JC Is this one of the Chilean conversions?

I think rightfully there are more modern measurement methods, but a technique measuring metallic deformation seems like a good approach to predicting the effects on other metal objects.
