"Not For Ball" (used from 1875 to 1887) was dropped and replaced by CHOKE in 1888

Please don't think I'm being picky but is that just a scrape near the front of the loop under the left barrel on the first picture ?
I don't mean to sound negative, but just wondered.

Are you talking my gun or the OP's gun in the very first picture of the thread? If the OP's gun, I think what you are seeing is just a scratch, possibly from when the barrels were struck. I bought a damascus barreled gun over a year ago. From the pics the seller sent me, I swore it looked like a crack. The fellow assured me it was not. I even posted it on here. Long story short I bought the gun and with it actually in hand it was indeed a minor scratch. I had the damascus refinished and the scratch was gone.

Hi, yes, it's the very first picture . I'd not looked at it before and the mark caught my eye.
I guess I thought the same as you did when you saw something similar on the one you bought
Cheers
Nick.

Just a scratch, if you look at the picture of the barrels rebrowned it is gone

I had not noticed it so it may look worse in a picture than it was
