A nice rifle. Any history to go with it?

Jerry; Spoke to the company, it came out of a native Ohioan's estate. Said he had it, since she married him after WWII, but rarely if ever shot it. His wife consigned it. Talk about sick however, there were several Unertls and a Redfield that went for very good prices. Problem was, they came up before the rifle did. When I spoke to the dealer, he said one of those scope came off this rifle. They had pulled them apart, for a better price! Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! If you look closely, I believe that is a Canjar set trigger shoe. Anyway whether I shoot it or not I just had to have if, and there were only 2 bids, the initial bid in and mine. He said it is mint inside and out, we'll see, I am heading out this week for the opening of the GA. Whitetail season. Let you know, when I get back and look it over. Jerry

I go to machine shop auctioms, off and on,and they pull the same crap.They take the steady rests,chucks, tool holders,everything off and lump them to gether.When we object, they say they are working for the owner, not the bidders( of course the real owner is dead or bankrupt).

I didn't think C.C. Johnson was a gunmaker. I thought he was a barrel maker. When you take the action out of the stock, maybe you will find a second name.

At the A.S.S.R.A. website the following statement seems to settle this question with no less an authority than the Johnson family themselves.
"Irish, CC Johnsons grandson has the shop records from his shop and has offered here to document CC Johnson rifles. He does need the shop # from under the forend and also the serial #." HTH

Ok, you should have written even a blind pig occasionally finds a truffle. Wonderful custom rifle in age where 'blue printed" gun assembled from bunch of components includng plastic stock can cost >$10,000. One guy charges $15,000. All that lovely classic gun needs is quality Leupold target/varmint scope. Dare I say Nightforce?

Is this rifle a BASS or a repeater?

I love the rifle, how much I shoot it will depend on if my good friend Rocky MT. Bill can load the brass in the box for me, or I can luck up and buy a stock of someone's leftover loaded ammo, from a benefactor. The scope will come when that is known. Thanks for the nice comments.
