My Rem 552 and Browning semi-autos carry cheap Korea-made Black Arrow 1.5 X 5 X 20mm set---I just looked---at 1.5 and 2.5 powers. I think they're as good as any scope for their job on the market. Never heard of any problems with them and they're guaranteed replacement no questions asked.

Putting a cheap scope on a good rifle is like taking a $300 rod with a $200 reel on a $4000 fishing trip and having the reel filled with $1.79 per mile, K-mart line. There are very real differences between cheap scopes and expensive ones. That's why some are cheap. BTW, scopes don't "gather" light. They "allow" it to be transmitted. Better optics and larger objective lenses allow more of it to be transmitted. JL

Postoak,
How do you like that full stocked CZ? I have been eyeballing them online for a while. How is the feel, fit, finish and most importantly, how does it shoot?
Thanks and take care,
Mike

Jim, agree if you're talking about real hunting but hereabouts we use hardware .22 rifles, in my case the accurate Rem and the so-so Browning and for the distances we're shooting Black Arrow hasn't let us down. I've never seen the exotic super-accurate .22s in these parts because, my guess, is that they're not needed on 50-yard-max rabbits, squirrels and crows. My experience is they're usually too close to call it sport.

I can't think of a rifle that needs to more accurate than the .22lr rifle. Bullet placement is everything with such a small thing.

Mike For a rifle in its price range, fit and finish seems pretty good. The trigger and safety are a little stiff and rough, they just need a little polishing. The sights are of steel and good quality. The magazine is plastic, and sorta cheap looking - but works fine. The accuracy is as good as I can shoot with open sights, and probably a damn sight better, hence the need for a scope.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

Just think of all those Winchester 52 sporters that have brushed, and scrubbed and brushed again! Just hitting the backstop, is a moral victory.

I would put a 3-9X40 Tasco World Class for $45.00 at Cabelas and call it a day.
I'm suprised someone on a forum like this would question putting a good scope on a gun. I had 2 guns out a few weeks back, one with a Leupold and another with a Bushnell. If you can't see the difference, you have no business shooting a rifle. You certainly won't be able to shoot it as accurately, but then, on a shotgun forum, I guess close is good enough?

Thank you, Halvey and well said. Postoak has already indicated he was interested in a quality scope and was mainly asking for recommendations on what power to get. As to Pete's quote above and Lowell smelly tweeds, I'm embarrassed that people who should know better would recommend a cheap scope on any rifle, let alone a fairly nice one. You can't hit what you can't see clearly. To Pete's specific quote: A $200-$300 piece of glass on a $340 gun actually IS just about the right formula! :p JL
