Hell, Chopper, I bought a M17 with 2 ribbed barrels, 26 & 30, both numbered to the receiver, for $250. Only 85% though.

I was watching that barrel, not a bad price if you need it.

Not me. I haven't done anything with the plain, 26" modified barrel I got for less than a C note, except wipe the rust off of it.

I'm really not suprised a solid rib barrel would sell for almost as much as a whole gun.

Ted

They were an expensive barrel to make. The boys at Ilion machined them from a solid piece. No solder or brazing.

I was thinking about it but not for that kind of money.

The blueing looks really nice and the bore was shinny and being that it's a 30" solid rib, well, it didn't surprise me that it went this high. If you found one with a lot of blue wear for $100 and got it re-blued, you'd be close to that with shipping and all.

My highest condition 17, with checkered stocks and 90%+ blue cost me $240. I paid more for my 28" solid rib gun with the same metal condition but poorer wood condition, but it's worth it!

RR, I'll give you another hundred for that 2-barrel gun and even throw in a quart of home made maple syrup!

Tim

Nice find? I used to see old Ithaca 37s in pretty good shape for not much over $200, and that's for 'lock, stock, and barrel'!

Tim,
If I ever get the 17E I'm after I may do that. I was actually thinking of going after the barrel on Ebay to keep in case I ever get the 17E, have it egraved to match. Still working on that one though.

Ahhhhhh! The mighty graded model 17! I have pictures of three different graded 17s now but have never got to handle a single one!

Tim, a 17 is meant to be used. Engraving on a 17 strikes me like engraving a Glock. Just not needed.

Don't bother telling Der Jaegermeister what makes a 17 sweeter than a 37, since too many people know already.

I think I win, by the way-I paid $50 for my model 17, in 1977.

Best,
Ted
