as with any gun, old or new, shoot ammo that is in the pressure range of the times in which the gun was made...but, keep in mind that wood is the weakest componet of all guns. also, keep in mind that wood does dry out and become more brittle, the older it becomes. so, your smith has to be at least 60 years old... treat it with tlc and hopefully it will last another 60 year or more.
