Hey Gang, I recently acquired a very nice 16 marked Josef Ritter. He is thought to be a German merchant who had some guns made and stamped them with his name for sale through his own shop. I'm still trying to understand the barrel stamps but one indicates final proof before 1939. Is anyone here aware of Mr. Ritter or how to go about determining the actual maker. I know a lot has been lost to history but I'm curious. Jim

Post some images of the touchmarks. I would hazard a guess that Josef Ritter of Vojkovice nad Ohrí/Wickwitz, just South of Ostrava, was a Bohemian firearms merchant. He was somewhere close to Jani. Maybe Jani has visited his shop site. But I'd say he sourced his wares from the Austrians. If so, a proof date will be noted. Does it have the Rigby/Charles Harvey forend underlever?
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

Josef Ritter might have been "somewhere close to Jani" by US standars, but rather far away by Central European standards I was in western Czechia recently (near Plzen) but Ostrava is in the oposite, eastern part of the Czech Republic, near the Polish border; I was never in those parts. The gun in question might also be of Weipert/Vejprty or German or Belgian origin so touchmarks are a must. With kind regards, Jani

Well Jani you were close. Most unique marriage of a Belgian sourced A&D Body Action along with Weipert & German touchmarks. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Forgot this one of the water table: I'm of a similar mind to Dr. Hause as it would seem that an orphan tubeset was married to a German frame during WWI. Kind Regards, Raimey rse
