I measured all the case dimensions again after the cerrosafe was cool over night. The cartridge is straight taper from base to neck. case head is .435. neck is 395. The "bullet" measures .369 and the chamber tapers to .358 at the beginning of the rifling. Sounds a lot different. The rim measures .506. There looks to be.625 between the case neck and the beginning of the rifling.

Sounds like it would be great with bullets meant for the 35 Rem 180/200gr or heavy cast bullets for the 357 Mag if the bore is in good shape.

The case dimension are pretty close to 9.3x72R when you take in for shrinkage on the cerrro-safe. You can send your cast to C&H and they will make a set of die reasonably. 9.3x72R brass is a smidgen short but should work. From looking in the books everything else is to large.

I wonder if I could squeeze a 9.3x74 down that much? I'm told Buffalo Arms does it. Have to have a pretty hefty press I suspect.

Ben,
9.3x74R cases can be reformed to the head diameter you need,I too understand Buffalo Arms does this.To do it yourself, you will need a hydraulic press(a loading press isn't powerful enough)and a lathe(to make the necessary dies, turn the rim, and turn a groove ahead of the rim to avoid closing the primer pocket).I have a little experience doing this type of reforming,if you want to go to the trouble, let me know.

Sounds interesting from a mechanical point of view. I have a lot of 9.3x74 brass. I might come by there on my way to Auburn and spend a day playing at case forming.
Thanks.

I always knew you were a closet drunk I was just too nice to say so. grin
I understand rehab after surgery. I had about a foot of my colon removed 3 years ago an I've never gotten back to normal. For some reason I didn't spring back like I did when I was 65.
We just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other one and remember which side of the grass is best to be on. laugh
