What in the H%ll are those? Patches inlaid into the wood to cover bolts or pins run through the stock? A botched cracked Head repair? Are they wood? They almost look like some type of tape. The wood looks repeatedly sanded, the action metal looks "Proud" around the receiver edges.

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.
