Ted, your sense of history of goose shooting, (not hunting), on the East Coast of the USA is seriously lacking. We have gone through some lean times, but now the goose slayers are paying $2200.00 for camo finish 3 1/2" 12 gauge guns to shoot 15 resident geese or 25 snow geese a day. The "Honker" is and was a great gun to shoot a goose or sixty.

Back in the hayday of the Spanish shotgun makers, Victor Sarasqueta (VS) was a name with which to conjure. His guns were of the highest mechanical quality, and were offered with embellishments at every price point at which a market existed.
Kyrie, the above earlier statement you made--unless I misinterpret--sounds to me like a ringing endorsement of any gun carrying the V. Sarasqueta name. How does that square with your later "buy the gun, not the name" comment? Sounds to me like you're saying any V. Sarasqueta you buy is likely to be a solid gun in terms of function.

Yes sir, it would be hard to go wrong with a gun made by VS, assuming said gun had not been abused or simply worn out. Remember that VS went out of business about forty years ago, so the youngest VS shotgun we're going to find is at least that old. "Buy the gun and not the name", at least as I use it, means don't buy a used gun or refuse to buy a used gun based on who did or did not make it.

Including Zabala? Some guys have good luck with them; others not so much. Of course there's the issue of use vs abuse, but assuming guns of similar grade, in similar condition, I'd pay more for a V. Sarasqueta than a gun from the other members of the same clan.

Yes sir, including Zabala: Zabala Hermanos, 20 & 28 gauge two barrel set, hand detachable SLE, $1400:  Zabala Hermanos, 12 gauge SLNE, $167.87:    Ascensio Zabala - Model 91, 12 gauge, light game gun, $290:    The last thing I look at is the name on the gun. For me, the important things are: 1) What kind of gun (light game gun, medium game gun, live pigeon gun, trap gun, etc.) 2) Condition, condition, condition. 3) Approximate price point to which the gun was made. 4) Seller's probable price point versus the price point I'm willing to pay. If I can get good answers on those four questions I don't care who the maker was. If I don't get good answers on those four questions I still don't care who the maker was :-)
