I use a digital fish scale. If you break open a gun, you can usually balance it well on the scale by hooking it through the extractors/ejectors. Cover the hook with plastic if you're worried about scratches.
You can also hang the gun from any type of rope or sling after you've zeroed out the scale with the rope/sling attached.
I sometimes hang the scale, imagining that I can get a more accurate weight if I'm not holding it.
