This thread began with the commendable title "United We Stand."
Unfortunately, it took a wrong turn with a few members of one pro-firearm outfit attacking other pro-firearm groups. That was divisive. Inevitably, some arguments are coming from the other side now - these are equally divisive. Scrapping between pro-gun organizations only gives comfort to our enemies.
Wake up, folks! Every legitimate gun owner is an ally, whether he joins my group, your group, or no group at all. Any gun owner who does contribute to our cause - through membership dollars, or through personal effort - is a brother. Don't listen to the dividers - we're strongest when we stand together.

Lot of good points, Cody. You're more than welcome to join any of our anti-gun groups.
Jack, I said I was done with you but your last post riled me up again. Nobody, especially me, has attacked anyone for belonging to ACTIVELY progun groups. My beef is with the 95% of gun owners who do not give a dime to any pro-gun organizations. I disagree with Jakearoo that the 95% stay away because of any politically divisiveness of the NRA. The only politically divisiveness going on here is from the two political parties. Republicans actively seek the NRA support and Democrats would like everyone to believe the NRA is a bunch of monsters. NO, the 95% of non-supporting(of any organization) gun owners are an apathetic, lazy, cheap bunch of freeloader who are content to "let George do it". Be in or be out but if you can't honestly agree that the NRA is the only serious gun owners have to keep them, you truly are an idiot.

Devisive? Did someone mention devisive? Jim, let me tell you a story. In 1975 California passed a small group of laws known as MICRA (for Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act). This was, and still is, the strongest legislative protection ever enacted in the U.S. to shield doctors from civil liability for medical negligence. The limit for recovery due to medical negligence in California is $250,000 even for horrible injuries or death. Well, in 1998 California for the first time in a very long time elected a democratic governer, Davis, and at the same time elected a democratic majority in the both state legislative houses. The trial lawyers were elated. The first law they tried to change was MICRA. Wanted to raise the limits of liability above the $250,000 in place since 1975. Thought they had a slam dunk. A bill was drafted and sponsered by a few democratic legislators. Right out of the chute, about 25 democratic legislators and the new governer signed a letter saying the MICRA laws were just fine and they would not support a change. Turns out the CMA (California Medical Association) had hired a key democratic lobbyist to work for them starting in about 1990! Since then the CMA was, I think, the second largest contributor to the democratic party and its candidates. (First I think was the teachers.) That was the end of it. The legislation was withdrawn. No change to MICRA. Possibly, the NRA should take notes. Find the democrat pols who are pro gun and give them lots of money. The NRA needs to broaden their base. Surely, there must be some pro gun dems out there who need NRA support. Think about it. Jake

Boasting that "the NRA is the only game in town" is not only untrue, it disrespects the good work of outfits like the Izaak Walton League, and blows off gun owners who want a voice but don't find it in the NRA.
Jack, you remain the master of the circular argument. Note that as an Ike, I am well aware of the organization's "good work"--just not aware of that work, in specific, on gun rights issues in DC. But interesting that after several posts of "dissing" the NRA, you defend the Ikes because the NRA says that it is an "active" pro-firearms organization.:) Yet you have not produced a single example of how "active" the IWLA is on gun rights issues as a lobbying organization in DC. But if you're willing to hang your hat on what the NRA says, after pounding on the NRA for several posts . . . Interesting logic.

You have already demonstrated a remarkable inability to read what I have posted - see my last post addressed to you. Now you are inventing things I haven't posted. I cited the NRA line on the Izaak Walton League for the benefit of those who won't believe anything unless they hear it from the NRA. Jim Legg: calling non-members "idiots" is an interesting strategy for attracting people to your organization.

The NRA knows very well who the Democrats are who are pro-gun rights. They rank the legislators and governors who are on our side very high and the ones who are agin' us correspondingly low. The NRA "Report Card" does not discriminate by party. When election time draws near, the phony pols show up pretending to be shooters and hunters to curry favor with the NRA, hoping to get better marks on their report card. I'll say it again; it's not the NRA who divides the voters, it's the politicians. They make it a party line issue, Dems on one side, Republicans on the other. There are always exceptions on either side but that's the general trend. The anti-gun Dems know they have no real argument in favor of more gun laws, so they try to make bad guys out of the NRA. Nothing new about that tactic.

It's inexplicable to me that pro and anti re gun control can be neatly categorized by political affiliations in the United States. In truth, the only unanimity I've found in our fraternity is on the issue of gun control, regardless of our support for the Liberal, Conservative or NDP parties. We're all against it and work together to get rid of the gun registry. Anyone who'll help us, we don't care how they vote, we'll wash their feet like the biblical Jesus.

"Jim Legg: calling non-members "idiots" is an interesting strategy for attracting people to your organization." [/quote] Probably so, but the evidence in your dozen(seems like more) repetitive posts on this thread is overwhelming. And my idiot remark was not directed at "non-members" in general, only toward you.

Maaan, if some on the other side get their way you're going to shoot 'Airsoft'! My next piece will be selbstalde pistole P47 by Swiezersche Industrie-Gesellschaft Neuhausen am Rheinfall, and I'm going to become life member of NRA.
