Old Researcher has wandered off the reservation. What are the thoughts on this that appeared at my local pawn shop --

It is a 12-gauge, 2 5/8 inch chambers, 30-inch "Fine Damascus" barrels, weighs in at 7 pounds 7.6 ounces, 14 1/8 inch length-of-pull, 1 1/2 inch drop-at-comb, 2 5/8 inch drop-at-heel. Thoughts? Comments? Think the ejectors are original or was the gun back to the factory for the ejectors?

Very nice looking find. Maybe it's just how the pictures look, but it may be cast for a south paw.

With the ejector taking out the last digit of the serial on the frame, I suspect it was returned for that change. It looks like a C grade to me. Did you look under the grip cap? On the cross bolt guns from that same circa 1900 era, a grade marking is found there on some guns.

Yes, it was liberated from the pawn shop. It is stamped C on the watertable.

Very nice catch! I think it's unusual to see the dog's head forearm escutcheon on a C grade, and the lack of wear on that, along with the high percentage of remaining case colors and finish indicate this one didn't see a lot of hard use.

The style of ejectors are correct for the gun, whether they were original or a send back is extremely hard to say, but my guess is original in spite of the SN cutoff.
Very nice looking gun incidentally.
