Interesting to see the divide on gun ownership on two sides of the pond. As I understand it , most members of the NRA are in the 'home protection' and 'self defence'category of supporters with those useing firearms for hunting in a minority (at least that is what Kane Robinson told me a couple of years back).

Here the majority of those in the shooter and firearms pressure groups are hunters and collectors. I bet if you asked all the owners of firearms in the UK if they thought it would be a good idea to allow citizens to pack a handgun or keep an assault rifle at home, an overwhealming majority would say 'No'.

We have been stiffed, don't get me wrong! Stupid legislators taking target pistols away from licenced owners and ignoring the fact that ilegal use of handguns has gone up, not down, but I find it a pity that there is no common sense involved in gun legislation between the side who believe we are all safer if everyone is packing and those who believe all guns are evil and that they alone are responsible for all the bad that people do to one another.

I see little chance of this polarisation changing, which is a pity, I think.
