nothing better than a piece of wood screwed on the end of a nice gun to add to the looks and value.

Good news.
OP is in California, you're in Kansas.
Should he go with black, you won't be able to see it from your house.

Damn I'm lucky aren't I.

Hmmm, it only took seven posts this time for someone to get totally away from the OPs question, which was, "do you folks favor one brand over another?", and interject their personal distaste of that which the OP had already said he was going to use.

Wonders never cease.

I really like the looks of the Pac old english decelerator pad, especially when it's finished, fitted and rounded off. Next would be the NECG pads, the material used looks really good when shaped and finished. The NECG also has an optional quick change system that is pretty cool....you can change pads for various length of pulls (winter vs. summer lop, etc) Both are excellent.
DES/TSD, Del Whitman, and others do a really nice job fitting these pads and the Silvers.
Silvers are great traditional pads for high end guns, they just look right on vintage guns. It takes some skill to fit them correctly and finish them properly. They are expensive and they really don't do much for reducing or absorbing recoil.

Hi Gary,

I have used the Pachmyr Old English with nice results. Here examples of browns
and black depending on the stock grain:
