I woudl believe your ides of beauty is somewhat formed by your initial experiences in life.
If your on the 'other side of the pond',
no doubt a sidelock is your idea of beauty.
For me, growing up in a small Wisconsin Town, the Sporting Goods store had a Browning Superposed 12 gauge hanging on the wall for years. No one had the money to purchase but it was beautiful. My idea of reading material besides Boys Life was the yearly Winchester catalog.
The Model 21's were simply beautiful and the 21-6 w/inlay engraving, something to behold.
In later years, the only shotgun that simply grabbed my attention was the Darne.
Form followed function with the Darne and the fastest handling double was also beautiful to me.
I don't let anyone tell me what I like or don't like, but I also don't disparage what others like.
I will admit that there a few clunky guns out there but the Model 21 is not one of them.-Dick
